I Live in the Fast Lane
Day Thirty-one of March Spiky Squares!
[where Becky of Winchester's other entries are]

This was a "loner car" while ours was in the shop under warranty work.  It was a Cadillac XR5 with less than 1000 miles (about 840) when we picked it up.  We drove it around town and then to Jackson, Tennessee, and back.  We had permission to do this.

The picture has to be square.  Mine is "CD Cover" squared according
to Picasa 3, my photo helper app but discontinued by Google.

a Six Word Saturday post double with my Spiky Square

My Six Words:
Watching Traffic while Pipe Line Perched
and
Day Thirty of March Spiky Squares!
Gobs of spikes in that field behind the two birds, a few out front.

We found these Pelicans perched on a pipe, watching cars go by. I'm not sure they cared much about the car or its driver or passengers.

Unless there is a celebrity in the car. Then they take pictures and not down notes.  I'm not privy as to what will happen next.

 A Quilt in the Making

Day Twenty-Nine of March Spiky Squares!

[where Becky of Winchester's other entries are]

A couple of weeks ago we visited my SIL and Hub in North Louisiana.  On Wednesday night we went to they took us to their church for a devotional and prayer meeting.  We were privileged to see this fine quilt that the ladies are making.  It will be given away to someone who is deserving and down.

This quilt is being made from fabric scraps to make it a quilt of many colors.  I'm not sure when it will be finished, it takes a a month or more for the ladies to make one.  I would like to have this one or one like it.  At home we had homemade quilts for bedding, both grandmothers quilted while they were able.

A Fish, a Bird, Spiky Plants, and Spiky Shadows

Day Twenty-eight of March Spiky Squares!
[where Becky of Winchester's other entries are]

The Fish, to the left of the bird, is rubbery, has a yellow body and green fins, and carries a Water Thermometer (72°) dangling down in the water.
(same for Air Temp at 11:00 AM and low 80's in the afternoon)

I don't know what kind of bird it is, probably a dove as we have a lot of  those.  She is cooling her feet, getting a drink, and getting a break from the kids (or letting Hubby have a turn at the nest, duno).  They love to sit on the edge of the Hot Tub Spa.

The Green Spikies are Ferns, the light colored frond in front will probably die.

I was surprised that the ferns would make nice Spiky SHADOWS like this.  I only took the picture from inside the living room window to catch the bird without scaring it away.

View our pool here (in Spring) and here (in Winter).  Note: we only have snow about every ten years, the snow picture was taken last year.  The other one a few weeks ago.

Old Court House in Tennessee
Day Twenty-seven of March Spiky Squares!
[where Becky of Winchester's other entries are]

I was riding with my BIL and have forgotten the name of the town or county.  Guess I'll have to go back and see him and do this little jaunt all over again.  It is someplace west of Jackson, that's about all I know.

Through the Marshes at South Louisiana

Day Twenty-six of March Spiky Squares!
[where Becky of Winchester's other entries are]

On our last week end holiday jaunt we took a side trip on our way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  It went South before Lake Charles and came back to I-10 after Lake Charles.  Basically it was going to and driving along the South Louisiana shore of the Gulf Coast, Gulf of Mexico.

We drove through the marshes there, saw wild life and lottts of water.   Then on the way back up and out we had a nice Ferry Boat ride across the Inter Coastal Canal, we took a bridge coming down, and ended up at Cameron, La.  You may have heard or will hear of the hurricanes coming to or near this town.

[click picture for a larger size view]
At Cameron we stopped to have a very nice Fried Shrimp Oyster Poboy sandwich.  It was about the best I have ever had.  You can see more about our little trip and the poboy's restaurant source here.

Day Fifteen of March Spiky Squares!
[go there to see other entries]

It is full of spiky antenna like rods sticking up in the air.  Real Spiky. For sure a landlubber I don't know what kind of ship this is.  A large fishing boat?  A patrol boat?  Not a tug boat?  I duno.

Here is the original before I 'narrowed it down.'

I hope this picture will help you figure out what it is for me.

It was riding on the Texas Gulf Coast section of the Intercostal Canal about to go in front of us who were waiting for the ferry boat to arrive.  We would go from the marshes over to the town of Cameron, Louisiana.

Note:  I will post other SPIKY SQUARES posts for this month of March.  But not everyday, I have other things to do besides Blogging and being Retired.

Day Four of March Spiky Squares!
[go there to see other entries]

These iris bloom late, they always have even at our other place, for 19 years

We moved from Montgoery (Texas) to over here at Katy (Texas) and brought some of these iris plants for here.  The little Iris Patch in our back yard garden is SQUARE.

We had talked of moving a few ginger roots but they have to be managed carefully or they tend to take over the whole place.  I just love those blooms in the spring, they are purple pink in color.

For a long time we didn't know what they were, we transplanted a potted  plant from Mrs. Jim's mother's funeral.  A friend identified them for us.  I will post a picture of them when they are SPIKY.

Note:  I will post other SPIKY SQUARES posts for this month of March.  But not everyday, I have other things to do besides Blogging and being Retired.
