13th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Our Tree

Our Christmas Tree
You can click on any picture to make it larger

We didn't decorate our tree this year.  Company has been here and gone to their families, some are off skiing, and we will be alone, the two of us.  That is alright, just that hasn't happened for a long time.

Below the tree is our Fisher Price Nativity set.  We've had it for a long time.  Before that though, we purchased another nativity set in Bethlehem, Jerusalem, back in 1980.  I may show it later, it is displayed year-round in the bookcase boarding the fireplace.  (See the Snowman hiding behind.)

Santa is to the right in the picture above, standing on the fireplace hearth.

This is the snowman that was hiding behind the nativity set.  I don't know his history, we've had him for a long time also.

A note:
I searched for some of our prior trees.  Click here, they are mixed in with a lot of other trees, all years.

#17 - 17th Christmas Tree post, Store Colection

Our Walmart Christmas tree section
[click picture for a MUCH larger view]

Did you buy a tree here, one of Walmart's Christmas sections?  We've had our current tree when we moved here nine years ago.  We bought an 'on sale' pre-lighted seven-footer (much shorter than our former--there we had 19-foot living room ceiling, here it is 23 feet, tree at XXX Department store near us in Katy, Texas.  So far all of its white lights still burn.

We are greeted at the front door of our Walmart store by this huge blow-up Santa. It is over nine years old; it was here when we came.

Blow up yard decorations, someone stole our younger daughter's Rudolph from their front yard.  Could it be the ones who stole our wheeled green garbage recycle can sever years ago.

#14 - 14th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Our Tree

Our Burger King's 2023 Christmas tree

Yesterday Mrs. Jim and I had breakfast at our local Burger King fast food restaurant.  We each had a egg, meat, and cheese in a croissant sandwich with coffee and a shared order of fried potato tots.  Mine was sausage, hers was deli ham.

We used a coupon.  Mrs. Jim's coffee was senior priced, fifty cents, the rest was coupon priced at $5.99.  We have more, they will all expire at midnight on December 31.

from the front door but next to the back windows.

The LSU Santa is Mrs. Jim's for her alma mater,
two degrees, a Bachelor's degree in English and
History, and a Master's in Social Work.
The LSU Tiger Santa is fairly new, the other,
a Mrs. Santa, we've had since the 1970's.

Bottom Nativity Scene was our younger
daughter's when she was growing up
many years ago.  We also have another
Nativity scene, permanently in our living room.

Daughter's Tree - Number Eight of ??? 2021 Cristmas Trees

 MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

This is our daughter's 2021 Christmas tree.  It is a new one to replace the older one that Mrs. Jim bought when she and my sister shopped for after Christmas bargains.  That was back in the 1990's or earlier.  Sister, Lois, still uses hers, I had her this year's trim that she used for my Tree Number Seven (link

Our daughter's motif this year was to have pictures of the granddaughters, known on my blogs as BP and KP, for their different years growing up.  BP is now 22, KP is twelve.  Two of these pictures of KP hanging are shown to the right.
[click on the pictures for larger viewing, click again for larger still]

We were visiting part of our family last evening for a chili supper.  SIL had just finished making it using my recipe, the chili was really good, best I've had for several seasons.

You might like to try my recipe, as are my other recipes it is very easy to make.  Please if you publish it someplace I would like you to let me know and as well as give me credit on the page.  ("Jim's quick and easy chili recipe", click here for URL Link)

#05 - 5th Christmas Tree for 2023 - Books

via HandmadeTeeFunny
[click on photo for larger view]

I 'picked' this tree from our meeting place, Friday Writings blog, for sharing our effort's fruit of poems and prose writings. (URL)

This week's host was Magaly.  She chose our voluntary topic, a writing prompt used for inspiration to write with a book in our minds that we have read or hoped to read in December.

Hence this tree molded with books was the illustration she used for her post. Thank you, Magaly.

#18 - 18th Christmas Tree post, NYC

It's time for my Christmas tree blog again this year. Today will be the eighteenth when I post it, I started December 05, a Tuesday.   Click here to see them for 2023-1 for the first and here for the later ones at 2023-2.

No, we weren't in NYC for this Christmas tree time, we have seen it before though.  I like to see the ice skating; this will be there until Spring.  The Rockefeller Center, left out of sight, has shows featuring among other things, the Rockets Dancers.

To the right, are the windows of the Today Show program, the outside visitors are in the open space between the lighted baron tree and the building.

Mrs. Jim and KP were there with the outside audience a day in 2022, I caught them with my camera of a saved 'replay' from our TV.   They enjoyed that visit and were enjoying others.  Their words were "We're from Houston!!"

# 06- 6th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Dutch

["Dutch"New cat in the family]

Not a tree today, just a story and a picture of a meanie cat.  We are talking about "Dutch".

Dutch is a Russian Blue cat that belongs to our younger daughter.  Last year she had to protect her Christmas tree from Dutch, as he wanted to disturb it.

This year she though Dutch had better manners and would leave the tree alone.  He DID NOT.  Instead, he ate the foliage off five branches.  And had five piles of vomit.

The tree went away, back into its box and Dutch is in the 'Doghouse' for a long time.

#12 - 12th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Deer

This fellow greeted me as I was to put my Bible on the entrance table at a Men's Room at our church.  He is one of our seasonal holiday time employees.

From Monday's Houston Chronicle's;

Just the opposite of our daughter's experience with her cat, Dutch.  See my last Sunday's post,

#16 - 16th Christmas Tree post, a Decoration - 2023

Mrs. Jim's Santa helper guy
This is Mrs. Jim's LSU Santa helper.  He stays either under our tree or on the hearth.  We got him a few years ago at an After Christmas sale in Houston.  One side of his sales tag says "Handmade" and the other's said "Made in China".

# 01 -- First Christmas Tree for 2023

[click on photos for larger viewing]

At my doctor appointment this morning I was reminded by this tree, "Jim, I would make a good entry for your 'Christmas Tree blog for this year."

I agreed, and here it is.

Mrs. Jim was with me and we were waiting for me to be called.  Our medical care is mostly in the hands of the Houston Methodist Hospital West Campus.

[a BIG LETTER reminder of where were doctoring]
This was for my Gastroenterology doctor appointment at 10:45 and we were a bit early.  Mrs. Jim and I go with each other to functions like this, as Mrs. Jim says, we are "joined at the Hip since COVID."

If you want your tree to be posted here send it to me at the eMail address that I give in the header above.  Or if it is were I can copy it you can send me the address of where I can find it.

Bye for now,

!! MERRY CHRISTMAS 2023 !!

#07 - 7th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Barrowed

Our friend, Chris has this tree and dog in her home.  She has another tree in another room, it is a rather unusual tree, that I can have posted here.

Both are on her Facebook; I probably won't see them though as she lives on the other side of Houston. Most times it takes over an hour to go there, about 50 miles away.

And here is the dog, closer up.

Galveston Mardi Gras - Number Nine 2021 Cristmas Tree Post

MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

One aspect of the Galveston (TX) Mardi Gras parade is that there are several parades for each of the two week ends for the celebration.

Back in the 90's when I was still teaching most years I was the lead sponsor for the business club, for us a chapter of Phi Beta Lamda.   PBL, as it was called for short, was a national college student organization, holding a national conference each year at various cities.  Most often I would attend with a couple of handfuls of business student members.  At the conference's student business knowledge competitions we would place high and often would win.

For three years in a row I would take all the members who wanted to go to the Galveston Mardi Gras and have a "float" entry in the Business oriented parade.  Doing that was an attraction for securing club members.  The third year our club had 126 members, the most ever for our college and that year the club with the most members.  The parade was strictly a walking one, we were not allowed motor vehicles to ride or power "floats".  The fourth year we withdrew from activities as the function moved to the fun section of Houston and was renamed the Budweiser Celebration.  I instigated our withdrawal as I knew our college would not approve of us participating in a beer sponsored event.

That didn't keep Mrs. Jim and me from attending the Galveston Celebration.  In addition to the parades there was a "Dickens on the Strand" celebration that lasted two weeks.  The favorite costume was old fashioned English dress.

Ask Dr. Jim (URL).
I'd be pleased if you would read these some, and I love for my readers to leave me comments.  Please do.

#10- 10th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Front porch - Business

!! MERRY CHRISTMAS 2023 !!
..

At the closed entrance porch of the restaurant where we ate yesterday had this tree.  We ate there because we had a BOGO Free coupon.  Saved use $17.95.  Mrs. Jim and I each had chicken-based entries, each a different variety.

Incidentally, the restaurant was facing Interstate Hwy 10, near our home, and there the widest street in the nation.

On the other front corner were these three blowup critters, two penguins and a reindeer.  The big birds are looking Christmassy with their scarves.

You are seeing a conservatively decorated room but we both appreciated it.  Besides, makes for a post on the Christmas Tree blog for this year.
