#18 - 18th Christmas Tree post, NYC

It's time for my Christmas tree blog again this year. Today will be the eighteenth when I post it, I started December 05, a Tuesday.   Click here to see them for 2023-1 for the first and here for the later ones at 2023-2.

No, we weren't in NYC for this Christmas tree time, we have seen it before though.  I like to see the ice skating; this will be there until Spring.  The Rockefeller Center, left out of sight, has shows featuring among other things, the Rockets Dancers.

To the right, are the windows of the Today Show program, the outside visitors are in the open space between the lighted baron tree and the building.

.
Mrs. Jim and KP were there with the outside audience a day in 2022, I caught them with my camera of a saved 'replay' from our TV.   They enjoyed that visit and were enjoying others.  Their words were "We're from Houston!!"

#16 - 16th Christmas Tree post, a Decoration - 2023

Mrs. Jim's Santa helper guy
This is Mrs. Jim's LSU Santa helper.  He stays either under our tree or on the hearth.  We got him a few years ago at an After Christmas sale in Houston.  One side of his sales tag says "Handmade" and the other's said "Made in China".

#12 - 12th Christmas Tree - 2023 - Deer

This fellow greeted me as I was to put my Bible on the entrance table at a Men's Room at our church.  He is one of our seasonal holiday time employees.

From Monday's Houston Chronicle's;

Just the opposite of our daughter's experience with her cat, Dutch.  See my last Sunday's post,

# 03 - 3rd Christmas tree 2023 - Beauty Shop

[click on photos for larger views]

Mrs. Jim came for a hair trimming. While I was waiting, I had the pleasure of sharing the owner's
Christmas tree with her customers. She changed her waiting room up to make room for her tree.

"Make room" makes me remember Jesus' birth as human.  There was no room for Mary, His mother, and she was in labor. The inn keeper gave use of a manger in his stable for the baby.

# 01 -- First Christmas Tree for 2023

[click on photos for larger viewing]

At my doctor appointment this morning I was reminded by this tree, "Jim, I would make a good entry for your 'Christmas Tree blog for this year."

I agreed, and here it is.

Mrs. Jim was with me and we were waiting for me to be called.  Our medical care is mostly in the hands of the Houston Methodist Hospital West Campus.

[a BIG LETTER reminder of where were doctoring]
This was for my Gastroenterology doctor appointment at 10:45 and we were a bit early.  Mrs. Jim and I go with each other to functions like this, as Mrs. Jim says, we are "joined at the Hip since COVID."

If you want your tree to be posted here send it to me at the eMail address that I give in the header above.  Or if it is were I can copy it you can send me the address of where I can find it.

Bye for now,

!! MERRY CHRISTMAS 2023 !!

Daughter's Tree - Number Eight of ??? 2021 Cristmas Trees

 MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

This is our daughter's 2021 Christmas tree.  It is a new one to replace the older one that Mrs. Jim bought when she and my sister shopped for after Christmas bargains.  That was back in the 1990's or earlier.  Sister, Lois, still uses hers, I had her this year's trim that she used for my Tree Number Seven (link

Our daughter's motif this year was to have pictures of the granddaughters, known on my blogs as BP and KP, for their different years growing up.  BP is now 22, KP is twelve.  Two of these pictures of KP hanging are shown to the right.

We were visiting part of our family last evening for a chili supper.  SIL had just finished making it using my recipe, the chili was really good, best I've had for several seasons.

You might like to try my recipe, as are my other recipes it is very easy to make.  Please if you publish it someplace I would like you to let me know and as well as give me credit on the page.  ("Jim's quick and easy chili recipe", click here for URL Link)

My Grandchildren

Where were your grandchildren today;    Or if you don't have some, where were
you; that your grandmother would care

From youngest to oldest I pray
Where are they what are they doing
It is a mean crazy world today
How there do those grandchildren cope

Lovely granddaughters I have four
Oldest two working at their homes
Both married, one mother of two

Younger two school has been their thing
One, college grad, now at D.C.
At White House front she's protesting
The younger's home, in junior high
Works Soduko, beats me at Clue

My two grandsons do their own thing

Keep good tabs on your grandchildren
Stay in good terms and good graces

One day soon they'll be watching you

Recipe: Mom's German Snapple Torte

Mom's German Snapple Torte

Recipe Ingredients
11⁄2 cups (5 oz) sweetened flaked coconut
11⁄2 cups (6 oz) chopped pecans
1⁄2 cup firmly packed light-brown sugar
1⁄2 stick (4 Tbsp) butter, melted
1 box (21 oz) Family-Style Chewy Fudge Brownies mix
1/2 cup Snapple (or Coke, coffee, etc)
2 cups heavy (whipping) cream
1⁄3 cup confectioners’ sugar

Recipe Preparation
1. Heat oven to 350ºF. Line a 15 x 10-in. rimmed baking sheet with heavy-duty foil, letting foil extend above pan on both ends. Coat foil with nonstick spray.
2. Mix coconut, pecans, brown sugar and butter in a bowl until well blended; set aside.
3. Prepare brownie mix as package directs for cake-like brownies.
Substitute 1/2 cup of Snapple, coke, coffee, etc. for 1/2 cup water.
Pour batter into prepared pan, spreading evenly.
Top with coconut mixture.
4. Bake 25 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack.
5. Lift foil by ends onto a cutting board. Cut brownie crosswise in thirds. Beat cream and confectioners’ sugar in a large bowl with mixer on medium-high speed until moist, stiff peaks form when beaters are lifted.
6. To assemble: Place 1 brownie layer, nut side up, on a serving platter. Spread top with 1 cup whipped cream. Repeat with remaining layers and cream, ending with cake. Frost sides with remaining cream. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
7. To serve: Cut with a serrated knife in 1-in. slices; cut each slice in half.

Can be made through Step 6 up to 1 day ahead.
